Daniel Lanouette, HIV Educator

(version française)

Hello everyone,

I've been working for a month at ACCM now and it's time for me to introduce myself.

I wish I had done it before but, here's one first thing about me, I can sometimes be allergic to anything resembling formality, but not to worry, I'm working on it.

My name is Daniel. I'm the new HIV Educator at ACCM and I'll be working at the Education and Prevention Department (EP). I'm a very nice and talented guy. I'm not always very modest but I have a great sense of humour.

I've been professionally involved in HIV and GLBT health and wellness for the past 12 years. If I add my years as a volunteer, I've been active in the community (the GLBT and the HIV/AIDS communities) for more than 20 years.

I first started as a member of the youth group at ADGQ (Association pour les droits des gais du Québec - Association for the rights of gay people in Quebec) and the Gai-Écoute hotline in the early 80s. I worked at Project 10 (an organization supporting GLBT youth) for 8 years. I also worked at the Canadian Rainbow Health Coalition (based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan), at AIDS Saskatoon and I did training on sexuality and GLBT issues for Katimavik and the RCMP Academy in Regina.

I'm very excited to be involved with ACCM and to work with its team of dedicated, fun and smart individuals. And I'm not kidding here, they truly are super. And imagine, I've only been with them for one month.

As HIV Educator I will be working closely with volunteers and we will be involved with providing various organizations, groups and individuals with training and materials on HIV/AIDS and other STIs, on safe sex and safe body art.

I will also contribute to the training and supervision of students and volunteers and I will work at establishing and maintaining partnerships with organizations, groups and schools interested in the prevention of HIV and other STIs.

If ever you think volunteering at EP is something that you'd like to do, please let me know. Also if you are in need of information on HIV, AIDS, other STIs or on safe sex and safe body art, or if your organization or school would like to have a workshop, training or kiosk on these topics, don't hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at ACCM at 514-527-0928 or by e-mail.

In the meantime, enjoy what's left of the summer and remember to always be nice to yourself and to others.
